Looking for sailing lessons this summer? Learn how to sail or become a better sailor at North Star Junior Sailing. This fun summer day camp program for children ages 9 to 18 and an evening adult program is taught by US Sailing Certified Instructors.
We are still finalizing our plans for the 2013 season, interviewing for our 2013 staff. Thus far, we've had an excellent field of candidates!
Our Youth Learn to Sail will continue to be 5 day per week sessions over 2 weeks with 3 sessions offered for 2013.
We will offer the "Sailors" (intermediate) program for 5 days this year over one month sessions. Our Race program will also run for 5 days per week in both half and full season sessions.
Whether you have never been on a sailboat before, are a parent with a sailboat wanting to sail with your child more comfortably, or know how to sail and are looking for a competitive racing program competing at local yacht clubs, we have a program for you or your child.
From the beginning fundamentals of sailing to learning racing rules and tactics, each child or adult will be taught sailing skills based on their level. Safe boat handling, seamanship, responsibility and sportsmanship are a part of the junior sailing experience. Development into one-design racing and sailing competitions are available when they are ready.
NSJS has been a leader in junior sailing locally for over 20 years. Hundreds of sailors have had the opportunity to experience sailing by starting out in a summer day camp sailing program. Sailors have gone on to compete in collegiate, National, World, America’s Cup, and Olympic competition. One such person is Dawn Riley. She is also an advocate of the Women’s Sports Foundation and community access into the sport of sailing. Most important, is the countless young men and women who have taken their experiences at NSJS and gone on to make sailing a lifelong passion; whether it be ocean coastal cruising, racing regattas, or day sailing.
Tuition for sailing lessons are kept affordable by offsetting overhead expenses through multiple fundraising methods organized by the board of directors, boat donations which may be eligible for a tax credit and volunteers.
The sail boat training facility is located at North Star Sail Club. A half hour north of Detroit in Macomb County, Harrison Township Michigan offers sailing on the beautiful "Anchor Bay" of Lake St. Clair. Sheltered waters, ideal for your summer sailing lessons.
Program Times, costs, time commitments can be found on the information tab. Sailing programs offered are for the beginner sailor, pleasure sailor, to the advanced sailor, who wants to race at different yacht clubs each week.
